Definitely gradual and systematic change is the way to go, at least until you feel ready to tackle the addiction head on!!! Eating a lot of fruit is also massively helpful. If I'm upset, I crave sugar and I can eat a bag of Oreos before I'm even aware of how angry I am. I am totally about the emotional health. You had to get into your "groove." It sounds like it's working for you now, so that's great! :) Sagan,

I just started thinking about food all the time and wanting more. My sister has the same problem. I've done the food journaling a few times and now I'm finally able to keep a food journal without going totally nuts... it's interesting how it's had that effect. I find it does help me now. But before I think it might've made things worse! Maybe I just wasn't ready to make the necessary changes? The first time I tried keeping a food journal, I think I ended up eating more.
