Five Yoga Principles

femaleyogaHere is a look at the five most important principles of yoga. These five yoga principles are absolutely essential to the practice of this ancient art. If you want to get the most out of yoga then you need to understand that it is more than just for weight loss and health, but it is also about finding peace and self realization in yourself and everything that you do in life.

1 - Relaxation

The first of the yoga principles is designed to rest your entire system while releasing the tension in your muscles. When you follow exercise with relaxation, it is capable of dislodging the blockages in your system and restoring the natural and normal energy flow with in your body, helping to calm your mind.

2 - Exercises or the Asanas

The postures in yoga, known as the asanas, are designed to help you stretch and to tone all of the muscles in your body while strengthening your body and your bones and ligaments inside your body. The asanas are one of the most important yoga principles because they are capable of keeping your spine, joints and muscles more flexible while improving the circulation in your entire body. These asanas are also capable of relieving depression in your mind by increasing the feel good chemicals, endorphins, within your body. The exercises in yoga are what will help with weight loss, flexibility and strength building, but they are not the only important feature of this practice.

3 - Breath Control or Pranayama

The third of the yoga principles is breath control. Pranayama, breathing techniques, are capable of increasing the capacity of your lungs, and what this is going to do is to enable you to breathe in a fuller and more meaningful way. They also help to strengthen your internal organs, deepen your capability for relaxing and also improving mental control as well.

4 - Nourishing Diet

Consuming a diet that is nourishing and well balanced in nature is going to boost your immune system, which will ensure better health overall. Eating a nourishing diet is also going to calm your mind. As a result, your body is going to become more resistant in general to disease and illness, and as a result you are also going to feel a much greater sense of health and general well being from head to toe.

5 - Positive Meditation and Positive Thinking

The fifth of the yoga principles is positive thinking and meditation. Yoga is capable of promoting positive thinking as one of the most important principles of the practice. Positive thinking is going to help you train your body to more readily purify your thoughts so that the you that emerges is more confident and more triumphant. Meditation is ultimately going to lead you to self realization, and this is the true purpose behind yoga and the five yoga principles above all else.
