You are going to need to have a solid clear skin treatment routine and you need to have the right skin care products as part of this treatment. In order to maintain beautiful and clear skin you are going to need to be completely consistent when it comes to your skin care routine. Everyone has a basic idea of how to wash their face, tone their face and use topical treatments, but there are two tips for clear skin treatment that many people overlook, and as a result, they never know how to master their skin care treatment.

First of all, it is vitally important that we wash our faces properly.
We need to know what our skin type is, and we need to choose products that are designated specifically for our skin type. When it comes to looking for a face wash product, you need to find something that has a medicated product in it if you have acne that you want to reduce.

If you have skin that is on the sensitive side, then you may need to find a mild type of medicated face wash. If your skin is on the dry side, then you are also going to want to find a milder type of medicated face wash. If you have severe acne or oilier skin, then you may want to look for a stronger face wash product. It is generally a good idea for you to check the labels out, to make sure that the product that you are buying is indicated for your skin type and situation. Some products are intended for oily skin, while others are intended for dry skin, and others still are best suited for sensitive skin - Make sure that you are choosing the right product and that you are not over washing your face, because washing your face too often can actually make your problems worse.

After you wash your face properly, the second step involves knowing how to close your pores, which often involves using a toner. Do not use toners that contain alcohol because this can exacerbate the problem. Alcohol is a drying agent, and dry skin causes scratching, which causes skin problems. Scratching easily leads to inflammation, and this is going to make the problem worse.

It is also vitally important that you use moisturizer and that you get enough water, as these things play a large role in having clear and beautiful skin. Your face absolutely needs to have enough moisture, so you should by hydrating your skin properly every day by choosing a moisturizer that does not have any oils in it. You should also be getting a minimum of 80 ounces of water per day, which is 10 8-oz glasses. This will keep your skin soft, supple and beautiful.

I think she has clear and powerful voice. She also seems to conduct herself in a decent manner. Yet, this seemingly sweet, country girl from Oklahoma is not immune to the pressures that Hollywood, and society in general, place on the importance of looking thin and beautiful.

Something just didn't sit right with me when I read this article from People which touches upon Carrie's thoughts about her appearance and using sweets as a means of comfort. The full article about Carrie Underwood is featured in this month's issue of InStyle.

In my opinion, her focus on analyzing her body and needing to stay thin seems to be playing games with an obsession and even an eating disorder. And eating disorders never play nicely. Emotional eating may be a problem for her as she speaks about turning to ice cream when experiencing sadness and hurt.

Now, I don't think there is anything wrong with thinking about improving one's body and counting calories. In fact, I believe this can be very helpful to losing weight and improving health. However, I believe it turns into a problem when thoughts about such things become obsessions. Obsessions interfere with simply living and enjoying life. Obsessions about body weight and calories open doors to other problems, like eating disorders.

Riches, fame, talent, and beauty do not exempt one from the pressures to stay thin (and may even encourage it), whether those pressures are external (coming from others/society) or internal (created in your mind). I bet Carrie is feeling these pressures, and her celebrity status most likely intensifies them.

Here's some food for thought: Does Carrie's simply being a woman in the spotlight increase her pressure to remain thin? Will beauty according to Hollywood standards help her earn more money than by her talents alone? Does this apply to women in other professions? And what about the guys? Do they have it easier with appearance expectations?

This spurred comments regarding Barbie as a poor choice of dolls for young girls.

That got me to thinking... Which dolls present positive images to girls - that are not all about ginormous ta-tas and itty bitty waists? What would I want to give to my little nieces? To my daughters?

So off I went to 'research' this conundrum, and I made the following list of dolls I thought give a more positive image than Barbie. I noticed that, overall, these dolls are more expensive, which is unfortunate. However, I believe they are also of greater quality. If you know any other great dolls for girls (and boys too), please let me know!

Girls Explore

Girls Explore dolls personify actual women in history, complete with period clothing and biography. Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, and Dot Richardson are among the historical lineup.

Now, these are not glamorous dolls. There are no ball gowns, sparkles, and makeup. They're also $55.00 a piece. However, they ofter a unique peak into history and the importance women have had in shaping it.

Only Hearts ClubOnly Hearts Club

Thanks to Lynnae from beingfrugal.net for mentioning these great dolls. Only Hearts Club features dolls that are girls from different ethnic backgrounds with a wide array of interests, from horseback riding, music, cooking, and math. They are appropriately dressed and come with their own pet. They are approx $16.00 each.

American Girl

American Girl Dolls - MollyI remember when these dolls from when I was a preteen, and I thought they were beautiful. Only three different dolls were offered at that time, but the American Girl company have since grown to include not only dolls from different periods in history, but baby dolls, dolls that resemble their young owner, clothing, books, and accessories. An American Girl Place, a museum/store/restaurant, is located in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. And now there's a movie coming out featuring Kit, a girl living during the Great Depression.

What I like about the American Girl dolls is how beautiful they are, yet how suited they are for playing. I really like the opportunity for learning about history that is involved with each doll. Each girl has their own story books, clothing, and accessories. My favorite has always been Samantha, from 1904.

The latest addition is Julie from 1974. This "historical" doll is hitting a little too close to home. If they make a doll from 1984, I'm going to start feeling really old!

The dolls cost roughly $90 or more.

P31 Dolls P31 Dolls - Abigail

P31 Dolls are based on the teachings from Proverbs 31 (hence the name P31) and feature three Biblical women, Leah, Abigail, and Elisabeth. However, they are featured as girls and are dressed in modern outfits. The dolls come with a cookie recipe, cookie cutters, and a lesson based on Proverbs 31:20. They cost about $40.00.

Good news, folks! You don’t have to look like the latest Hollywood “It” girl or guy in order to be healthy. If you’re toting around saddlebags and love handles but are truly fit, you’re a lot better off than someone who simply looks really thin but couldn’t run a mile to save his/her life, even if being chased by a tiger.

Not too fat, though: That being said, don’t use this as an excuse to park yourself in front of the cookie jar. Generally speaking, there are limits as to how fat you can get and still be healthy, even if you exercise regularly.

A Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or more is considered obese and most likely indicates you’re carrying around more body fat than is considered healthy. Among other negative effects, all that extra fat puts a strain on your joints, heart, breathing, and overall comfort. I don’t believe that’s worth the evening rendezvous with the chips and cookies.

Don’t stop exercising just because the scale shows a higher number than you’d prefer! Exercise is a powerful tool which can help improve your health and fitness, even if your belly jiggles a bit. Measure your progress by how fit and lean you are becoming and appreciate that you’re becoming a healthier person than the skinny, sedentary one.

Sad when clothes come before the person.

Unless born with supernatural DNA, many fashion models feel the pressure to obtain unnatural thinness. Consuming only carrots and Diet Coke, smoking, and doing drugs are adopted into the model’s lifestyle in order to maintain the skinny image promoted by their modeling agencies.

Take, for example, Hila Elmalich, a 33-year old fashion model from Israel. Hila suffered from anorexia. She died from this disease on November 14 when her heart simply stopped pumping because it didn’t have the nutrients or energy it needed to do its job. Hila weighed less than 60 pounds.

This tragic event seems extreme, but I wonder…just how prevalent are eating disorders among fashion models? How many modeling agencies ignore or even support starvation diets and self-induced vomiting to keep their models skinny?

Yes, there are models out there who, well… eat! And they eat healthy. They take good care of themselves and scoff at the idea of starving themselves, making themselves throw up, or taking drugs just so they can get to an abnormally low body weight. These models look toned, fit, and beautiful. We should applaud these models. However, I am of the opinion that the eating disorders are more common than we'd like to admit.

Thankfully, one individual in the fashion industry is trying to change the way the beauty is viewed and put a stop to eating disorders among models. Adi Barkan is a well known owner of a modeling agency in Tel Aviv, and his work has prompted acceptance of new legislation requiring all modeling agencies in Israel to use the Body Mass Index (BMI) prior to hiring models.

Because of Mr. Barkan's influence, many agencies now require models to pass a health exam and to have ongoing exams throughout the year. Models are educated on nutrition and how to take care of themselves in a healthy way. Other agencies require models to have at least a BMI of 18 in order to work.

I think these improvements are a good start to changing the fashion industry’s view of the ideal model. I hope the trend continues. Being thin in and of itself is not evil. The problem is the obsession and pressure to live up to an unrealistic image and the resulting damage to health and self-worth. Or worse, death. Tragically, Hila Elmalich was lost to the latter, and personally, I'd rather not hear of other models going down that path. Once is too much.

I must have forgotten this important goal because the other day I was being too critical of the way my body looked - a little bit of tummy pooch; thighs not exactly rock solid. I'm not overweight, but I continued to bash my body and point out what I thought to be less than ideal. I started feeling discouraged. Hmm, are you seeing what's wrong with this picture?

My husband put my negative thinking to a halt by saying, "You're beautiful! I think you look hot!" I paused, blinked, turned to him, and asked, "Even if I gain weight?" My husband gave me a funny look, "Of course! You will always be beautiful to me."

Awww! 50 points to the husband! ;) Really, though; I was touched because he was sincere in what he said. In fact, my husband told me not to be so hard on myself! It wasn't doing me any good.

I also felt ashamed for my body-bashing. My husband loves me as is. I have the freedom to be in my own skin and know that I will be accepted, even if I don't look like a Hollywood movie star (a lot of that is smoke and mirrors anyway)! I should give that same kind of love and acceptance to my own body.

Instead of focusing on all the imperfections and yearning for that "perfect" body, how about I be a little more thankful for all the blessings I've been given? How about I delight in the fact that I have a functioning, energetic, healthy body and take care of it in a loving way?

JoLynn wrote a great post at her blog, The Fit Shack, that reminded me of these things. Why should we wait until we have that "perfect" body before truly living life to the fullest? Live it NOW! Live joyfully, show kindness, have fun, be productive, try something new, focus on health and not outward appearances - NOW!

If you'll allow me to get deeper, for me, living life to the fullest also means living with a focus on what's truly most important. And that's a focus on giving God glory and enjoying my relationship with Him. When all's said and done, that's what really matters in my life.

Sure weight loss can be a very good goal, but weight loss shouldn't be the end-all, be-all.

Phew! Well, OK! I got a little passionate there at the end! Hope you made it through all that! :) Still, thinking on these things does make the little tummy pooch look a lot less important. And frankly, I don't think anyone cares about it but me!

So, why do you want to be "skinny*"?

Will it make you beautiful, popular, safe, in control, happy? Can you not be/have those things the way you are right now? Why?

Are you starving, eating in secret, binging, purging, exercising all hours of the day, constantly weighing yourself? Is getting skinny an absolutely must for you? Is getting skinny your sole focus?

There will be things you may have to give up in return for this goal; you know that, right? Things like living your life to the fullest, your health, or perhaps even your life. That’s a high price to pay for obtaining super skinniness, isn't it? And I truly don’t believe it’s worth it.

What do you think about changing this goal of being skinny? How about surrounding yourself with people who love and support you? How about learning to love and care for your body? How about learning to eat healthy and whole? How about exercising for fun and health? How about enjoying and living life to the fullest?

Maybe there's something deeper than this goal of getting skinny?  Maybe there's a chance you're suffering from an eating disorder?  Could you consider seeking professionals who have the knowledge and compassion to help you work through the hurt and pain that's deep inside you? Having an eating disorder doesn't mean you're a bad or strange person. That's completely false! Choosing to recover from an eating disorder means the giving yourself the opportunity to become a healthier and freer you.

*Yes, the term "skinny" is also used without the intention of implying anything negative (i.e., really meaning svelte, sexy, and fit). I can understand this. This post was in response to those who are intent at getting skinny (i.e., really low body weight) at all costs. If the motivation to lose weight is simply to get really skinny, there may be deeper issues at stake, and the individual needs careful attention by a professional counselor so that recovery can take place.
