Here is a handful of antidotes that will help you alleviate your menstrual cramps once and for all. No longer do you need to suffer from those terrible pains during that special time of the month.

- * Find Balance - Finding balance in the form of a healthy diet may not completely cure cramps, but it can actually work wonders for your sense of being over all, making you feel better. This is going to mean cutting out the sweet and salty junk foods, even when your cravings are the worst ever. Nobody needs to feel sluggish or bloated during menstruation, so shoot for fruits and vegetables, lean meats like chicken and fish, and healthy snacks that will give you a healthier feeling over all.

- * Take Vitamins. - When women are getting a healthier dose of vitamins and minerals on a daily basis, they tend to notice fewer problems relating to menstrual cramps. Make sure that you are taking a daily vitamin and mineral supplement, and look for one that comes in small doses and offers calcium.

- * Get Adequate Minerals - If you are getting enough of the minerals potassium, calcium and magnesium, you will be much more likely to find relief from your menstrual cramps. Women who get enough calcium suffer far less when it comes to menstrual cramps in comparison to those that do not. Magnesium is also important because it allows for the more effective absorption of calcium.

- * Avoid Caffeine - The caffeine that is found in tea, coffee, soda pop and chocolate can actually contribute to your menstrual cramp discomfort because they make you feel more nervous or jittery. The oils found in coffee are also capable of irritating your intestines for an increase in discomfort.

- * Kick the Alcohol Habit - If you are retaining water while you are on your period, then drinking alcohol is really only going to add to the problems that you are already dealing with. If you have to drink, keep it limited and stick to a glass or two of a light type of wine.

- * Mineral Bathing - Create a health spa of your very own by creating a relaxing bath that you can use to relax your muscles and to relieve your cramps. Add a cup worth of sea salt and a cup worth of baking soda to warm water and give your entire body a good 20 minute soak for the best results.

- * Go For a Walk - If you walk or if you engage in some other form of moderate exercise, then when your period arrives it will be a lot more manageable than if you are not getting any moderate exercise in your lifestyle.

How to Avoid Issues With Osteoporosis http://nutritionfitnesslife.com/how-to-avoid-issues-with-osteoporosis/ http://nutritionfitnesslife.com/how-to-avoid-issues-with-osteoporosis/#comments Sat, 07 May 2011 00:46:27 +0000 kevin http://nutritionfitnesslife.com/?p=746 As our bodies age, there are a number of health concerns that people need to stay aware to avoid lengthy treatment and health complications. Over ten million people suffer from osteoporosis, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), and most of these sufferers are women. Women are twice as likely to have issues with bone density and osteoporosis than men. However, there are steps women can take to stay healthy, avoid developing the life-altering disease, and understand their health information.

Osteoporosis is a disease that literally means porous bones, and it affects bone density. The disease develops when bones lose critical nutrients, such as calcium and phosphorous. While the disease affects all the bones in the body, the bones most likely to break are hips, wrist, and spine.

Many people already suffer from the disease, but have no idea. Some of the warning signs that you may have osteoporosis include:

  • Fractures to the vertebrae, wrists, hips or other bones
  • Loss of height in conjunction with a stooped posture or other spinal deformity
  • Severe back pain from a collapsed vertebrae

Changes in hormones have a major influence on the possibility of osteoporosis, but there are other possible factors, such as bed confinement, thyroid issues, bone cancer, inadequate calcium or vitamin D intake, age, sex, and body size. There are medical treatments for osteoporosis, but it's better to start early with preventative measures.

Here are some of the preventive measures that can help lower chance of osteoporosis.

Calcium/Vitamin D Intake

Changes the amount of nutrition in your diet to increase amounts of calcium and vitamin D. Taking a multivitamin also helps with the intake necessary to avoid this disease.

Weight-Bearing Exercise

This type of exercise, specifically jogging and walking, stimulates new bone growth and increases muscle mass, which protects bones against deterioration.

Other options are the following:

  • Add soy to your diet
  • Avoid caffeine
  • Limit alcohol and smoking
  • Hormone Therapy, for post-menopausal women

While these preventative measures are no guarantee that you won't contract osteoporosis after you start to lose bone mass, around 30, they will help to lower your chances. Proper nutrition and exercise are key to avoid the pains of this disease

Understanding Back Pain in Pregnancy http://nutritionfitnesslife.com/understanding-back-pain-in-pregnancy/ http://nutritionfitnesslife.com/understanding-back-pain-in-pregnancy/#comments Sat, 26 Mar 2011 03:34:01 +0000 Keira http://nutritionfitnesslife.com/?p=443 backpainApproximately 3 out of every 4 women has some type of back pain in pregnancy. For some of these women, the symptoms will begin in the earlier stages of the pregnancy, and they may occur on an intermittent basis until after delivery. For more than 50 percent of women, the pain exists during the final 3 months of the pregnancy, and there is no known cause for this discomfort. Recent studies are beginning to show that women with more than a single pregnancy, with greater weight gain numbers or with a history of back pain in the past are those who are the most likely to experience back pain in their pregnancy.

Causes

The causes of back pain in pregnancy are believed to come as a result of changes in the posture of the body, poor mechanics of the body, fatigue in the muscles, hormones causing ligament connective tissues to relax, Sciatica related pain and excessive weight gain. There are also a number of activities that are considered to be either causes of back pain in pregnancy or things that exacerbate the back pain in pregnancy. These include standing or walking for periods of longer than 30 minutes at a time, standing on a single leg, bending forward, climbing up stairs, stepping into or out of the bed, turning over while in bed, driving for a period longer than 30 minutes, poor posture while sitting and carrying heavy or large items.

Treatment

There are a number of options that are available for dealing with back pain in pregnancy. For example, a pelvic belt can be prescribed to a woman that is having trouble with intermittent back pain while sitting, standing or walking. Regular exercises as well as conditioning exercises are both useful for back pain in pregnancy, including swimming, walking and bicycling. Back pain may also be relieved by moist cold and heat packs. Pregnant women dealing with back pain may choose to take pain medications, but should only do so under the care of a physician. Bed rest is also indicated for many women dealing with back pain, especially in their final trimester of their pregnancy, and the physician may also recommend massage in order to alleviate some of the discomfort.

Prevention

There are a number of things that can be done for back pain prevention as well. Gaining excessive weight during pregnancy should be avoided, for example. Maintaining proper posture can help to prevent this type of back pain as well. Proper mechanics of the body should also be practiced, and an exercise program that is designed to strengthen the back should be followed. Low heeled shoes should be warn during pregnancy as well, to prevent back pain from becoming a problem.

Back pain in pregnancy is not always persistent, but it may become so if the proper steps are not taken to keep it at bay.
