Time I share some link love! And what an exceptional week to do so. I read some great posts that may have you rethinking a few of your daily habits.
Workout mommy wrote two informative posts about the controversial chemical found in many water bottles and canned foods. Bisphenol-A (BPA) can leak out of the plastic and into your food/drink. (Nice!) BPA is associated with an increased risk for breast and prostate cancers, fertility difficulties, and behavioral problems in children when exposed in the womb. (Even better!)
Personally, I am tossing my used (and reused and reused) plastic water bottle in favor of a less toxic vessel!
While you're tossing your BPA-laced plastic bottles into the recycling bin, you may want to get rid of those packets of Splenda too. JoLynn at The Fit Shack wrote an eye-opening post on how Splenda is not a healthy and safe sweetener as those commercials make it out to be. Hey, folks in Splendaville! You're eating a chlorinated chemical! Mmmm... please pass the mustard gas.
Hey, it's Friday, so let's end on a positive note here. I want to share the triumphs of Cindy, from Go Workout Mom, and Melanie from, Life is a Marathon, both of whom completed the Country Music ½ Marathon this past weekend. Awesome job, ladies! You know I live vicariously through you, right?
Have a relaxing, yet active, weekend, everyone!

Hi Susan,
Thanks for recommending my post on Splenda to your readers – I’m still settling down after learning about how crappy it really is – I guess the insecticide (er, Splenda) had me in a brain fog.
Have a great weekend!
thanks for mentioning my posts as well! everything seems to be laced with chemicals these days–it really is scary stuff!
JoLynn and workout mommy,
Thank YOU for the important info!
Thank you for the shout out Susan! You’re sweet. Yikes, No splenda and water bottles?! I guess it’s time to revert to glass and good ol’ sugar! I wasn’t much for the sweeteners anyway. I much prefer the addicting real stuff, but successfully avoiding it with better results!
Cindy,
You’re very welcome!
Hey, I admire you for not being stuck on the sweet stuff! That’s my goal for one day. I’m getting there… little by little.
Thanks for the links!
Aw, thanks! You are welcome to live through my running, and I hope someday you’ll be able to venture across a start and finish line, too!
First, I love your writing and search your articles out first in my reader.
Second, http://blog.healthtalk.com/zimney/plastic-water-bottles-hot-cars-and-breast-cancer-what-you-need-to-know-about-pet-and-bpa/
I suppose it all depends on whom you choose to believe, but, fortunately, the PET thing has been pretty much debunked.
Keep up the good work!
Pam,
Thank you so much! That means a great deal to me! You made my day.
And thanks for the link. Interesting article and good to get a slightly different perspective. Yes, I remember that widely read email about PET in water bottles!
I’m leery about BPA, though. I’d rather find a good, BPA-free water bottle – like stainless steel – and be on the safe side. (Until a new study comes out that says stainless steel is harmful! Good grief!)
Hey there! Great blog. I initially came to this blog because of the BPA topic, but your other info was great too! Especially about Splenda… Gross. Anyways, all of this BPA talk is crazy! I’m so glad I use a stainless steel bottle from Klean Kanteen. Good, clean, BPA free water! I’ve also heard that glass bottles are awesome too. Thanks for the awesome post!
